| Information for Potential Sponsors
Corpus Christi Literacy Council is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that has served our community since 1986. Our mission is to develop, promote, and coordinate comprehensive programs and resources that reduce functional illiteracy in the Corpus Christi Bay Area. To accomplish that mission, we provide programs that include classroom instruction, one-on-one tutoring, and individualized instruction in computer labs. In addition, we provide tutor training not only for our own tutors but also for volunteers who work with other agencies and institutions.
With respect to the council and its services, here are some important facts we'd like to share:
- Since its inception, the Literacy Council has taught 5,821 students and trained 2,545 literacy instructors and tutors.
- In the past fiscal year, the Literacy Council served 588 students.
- In addition to our literacy programs at our Greenwood Drive site and elsewhere in the area, we have a partnership with the Corpus Christi Independent School District to provide pre-GED classes and classes in English as a Second Language and a partnership with Christus Spohn Hospital to train their health outreach staff to work with illiterate adults.
- Only 9.4% of our budget is spent on administration and fund-raising.
We request your sponsorship of our major fundraising event, "Mardi Gras Gala--Carnival Corpus Christi," which will be held on Friday, February 1, 2008, at the Solomon Ortiz Center. Through this event we hope to raise substantial funds to promote adult literacy in the Coastal Bend.

Please contact Mary Gleason, our Executive Director, at (361) 857-5896 with any questions concerning the council, the gala, or the sponsorship. We look forward to your response and participation.
